When encountering the error message “Windows was unable to complete the format,” you have several methods to resolve the issue and successfully format your drive. Here are some ways to tackle this problem:

Format Your Drive Using Command Prompt:
Open Command Prompt as an administrator.
Note the drive letter of the drive you want to format.
To format in FAT32, use the command: format /FS:FAT32 A: (replace A with your drive letter).
For NTFS, use: format /FS:NTFS A:.
To format in exFAT, use: format /FS:exFAT A:.
Wait for the process to complete.
Use Disk Management:
Open Disk Management from the Start menu.
Right-click the drive you want to format and choose Format.
Configure the options (such as file system) and click OK.
Remove Write-Protection:
If your drive has write protection enabled, turn it off.
Write protection prevents data erasure.
Disable it to format the drive.
Fix File System Errors:
Sometimes file system errors cause formatting issues.
Use tools like EaseUS Partition Master or AOMEI Partition Assistant to repair the file system.
Scan for Viruses:
Run a virus scan on your computer.
Malware can interfere with formatting processes.
