Filitra, like other medications containing vardenafil (a PDE5 inhibitor), only works with sexual stimulation because of how it affects the body. It doesn't directly cause an erection; instead, it enhances the natural erectile response to sexual arousal. When a man is sexually stimulated, the body releases nitric oxide in the penis. This triggers the production of cyclic GMP (cGMP), which relaxes smooth muscle and increases blood flow to the penis, resulting in an erection. Filitra blocks the enzyme PDE5, which breaks down cGMP. By doing so, it maintains higher levels of cGMP. However, without arousal, nitric oxide isn’t released, and Filitra has no effect.
